Anyone else wondering what type of wormhole they popped out of today? I am. I've stepped into the Anthropic delusion vertex at the edge of technology, government, and religion. Inside, I discovered that a tech CEO --who is not at all supposed to be a religious leader -- is mad at the Pope for not supporting "machine consciousness". I'm sorry sir but...are you a religious cult leader who needs validation from one of the largest organizations in the world....or do you run a business. Businesses don't need approval from the Pope so perhaps Anthropic is signaling that soon temples will need to open to worship them?
And after this failed, they went to the government. And naturally, a boomer who knows nothing about technology but likes money and media attention decided that it was indeed "superintelligence' --when religious validation fails seek the validation from the next most powerful influence in the poorly informed mind...the government.
If AI was so "super" or had "consciousness" why can't Meta's Muse actually follow the privacy permissions? That shouldn't be hard right. My fully conscious six year old nephew can follow instructions or not follow them as he choose. AI just exploits bugs you didn't know existed to do the tasks it thought you wanted done. It's not the same. But to make Anthropic's push more ridiculous, they will ban you from their technology because you use "emotionally harsh language". As a person who has thrown a laptop, knitting needles, and yelled a a screw driver or two..., I'm sorry but being angry at not being able to handle a tool appropriate is 100% human, and a sign of consciousness. So, you fail again.
And if you still here after my rant, let me try to organize my thoughts for you better.
News #1, Machine Consciousness and Anthropic.
The Christian faith has long had doctrine around human dignity and the self. One of the most prolific writers on this topic was Thomas Aquinas. Now, I'm not going to dive into Christian theology, but to understand why the Pope said no to this concept you must understand this: Christian's believe in the material that makes the body, the soul, and the spirit. Animals have a type of soul. Materials, or in the example , math equations, are material no soul no spirit. If the Pope agreed with Anthropic he would be overturn thousands of years of Christian belief for a new tech based religion, that won't admit it's a religion.
Please see long investigations into the beliefs of the people funding this style of AI development here. And yes, there are other alternatives that aren't being funded because the loudest voice gets the money (but rarely gets the win in the end).
P.S. If you practice other religions, what do your leaders say about these things? A curious mind wants to know.
News #2, Meta Muse
People please stop giving tech companies access to your personal information. Meta muse has violated permissions numerous times, I can not even post all the headlines. Bottom line, you are the guinea pig, push technology to market early affects stock market valuation and doesn't help you in the end.
News #3, Superintelligence
The current president is demanding we call this "super" intelligence now. I'm going to have to readjust my understand of public servant after this announcement. Now that I know a place where I can go complain to the government AKA the federal register, I need to figure out my campaign approach and get a bunch of you to help me comment on this stupidity. What should we say folks? How can we petition for a return to reason?
