Maybe lawsuits begin

In today’s newsletter:

Pense

I have a very robust inner monologue. Conversations, phrases, images often have a sound track. So, I wasn’t surprised by have a song pop into my head while reading articles for today. But I was startled at the song selection, “It’s not so scary after all”. Because it is scary.

Multiple responses to this news article flowed through my mind.

  • Can more people sue so we can bankrupt unethical companies?

  • Isn’t it the parent’s responsibility?

  • Why hadn’t I thought of that?

But then I remembered my nephew. He’s five. We let him on an Amazon fire or about 30 mins every few weeks if that. No regular use at all. No social media. No video access. But when it’s time to get off , he cries like his arm is being cut of. His usage wouldn’t be classified by what most people would call ‘problematic’. Like Kaley’s usage in the article.

And then I thought well may I drank the koolaid. Perhaps if I was still in the weeds of enterprise data projects, I wouldn’t have noticed the 1984-esque double speak buried a the bottom of the article. The one where the YouTube spokesperson says it’s not a social media network. If YouTube isn’t a social media network, I’m a Crumple-Horned Snorkack.

We can no longer define things by a single category. That’s dumb and doesn’t reflect the current intermingled state of technology. We also must choose to develop responsibly. But power abhors limits. And thus, perhaps, if more people capability of building these technologies refused to build unethically, we’d seem some change. That our we can find enough Kaley’s to wipe out 25% or more of the tech giant market caps. I’m good with either.

I’ve been adding image and video components to may app. It hasn’t been easy. But it has been interesting. So in case you’re wondering about the image generation process. I saw this video from 3Blue1Brown that you may like.

Creepy or not

Thanks to my niece and nephew’s obsession with Kpop Demon Hunters, I’ve had a Netflix subscription for the past few months. So, naturally I decided to view a few things. One of which was Lupin, it’s about this gentleman burglar. And naturally, delusions of being a Black Hat gentlelady burglar popped into my mind. After all, it really all comes down to social engineering. From im

personating hand writing to making realistic video impressions, hacking in that AI era is about perception. And honestly, I can’t wait to see crimes re-imagined for this century. I’m anticipating the rivaling just justice systems new inventions and perhaps a new way of protection for personal privacy being created.
