I like many in my generation love to travel. Plus I’m a Data Science consultant. Which boils down to me spending much of my year interacting hotels. And it is a definitely hit or miss experience. Especially…the food. So, I’m taking a moment to explore the impact of AI on the hotel industry.

AI is in hotel services goes well beyond the chatbots being used to cut down on inquiries going to the front desk. (Hopefully, it won’t impact customer experience. )

Here’s the three I’m most interested in:

  • One optimization you’ve seen are those dynamic pricing models where the price of your room changes between websites and browsers. Annoying for me but increases profits for the hotel.

  • Hotels require a lot of maintenance. So they’ve started to use predictive maintenance models to prevent equipment failures.

  • Food waste high priority too. Sensors are being added to monitor and reduce food waste. For now, I think it’s only measuring the amount of waste, but maybe one day it could make recipes from the waste and put in on a limited edition menu. Now, that would be cool.

As far as chatbots, they are not necessarily having the best reviews by customers. Personally, I don’t think a generically integrated chatbot will help most hotels. Though I do hope they stress test them before rolling them out. They don’t want a big flop like McDonald’s.

sigh, only time will tell how this all goes.

Creepy or not?

I don’t care how futuristic sci-fi movies make it see. 3D printed food is creepy. I hope to never have to eat any.

Do you think 3D printed food is creep?
