This has been a week of helping people make sense of their impending mortality—for we all die. Whether that death come sudden, after a battle with illness, or after a long life, it will come.
For me, my perspective is much broader. I’ve been to many funerals in my life. I’ve sat at sick beds. And conforted families as best I could. It wasn’t until after reading Atul Gawande’s "On Being Mortal” that I began to see life and death in a new light.
For me and for the science minded, I look to the stars. There are 6,000 confirm planets. Six thousand opportunities for life that didn’t happen. Being human on earth is a unique opportunity, privilege, and responsibly. There’s an earth to build and galaxies to explore. Life to live. We spend so much time against one another that we struggle to explore to our full potential.
Collaborative Science that involves all peoples, a variety of opinions, and a spoonful of passion will take is to this galaxy and beyond. The NASA Exoplanet Science Institute has a project called NexSci which is a place to collect data about the universe and other universes.
You don’t need to be a formally trained astrophysicists to explore, just passionate curiosity. It’s that spark that led to airplanes after all.
AI is being used in autonomous exploration to gather all sorts of data. It’s used to aid robotic navigation and to improve operational efficiencies. Sensors are returning environmental data being process by AI. It’s all pretty cool. Read more from NASA here.

After AI faked 21 of 23 citations in a legal brief given a judge, the lawyer who submitted without verification is receiving a $10k fine. Read More here . Don’t trust AI people. Verify the output. It works by predicting what you want it to say. It doesn’t actually know anything in the sense that you and I know things.
