We seem to be in a never-ending battle over consumer consent. Hopefully, people will gain some ethics before I die.
But hereās what happenedā¦Iāve always thought Onstar was creepy but not everyone did and now theyāve stabbed you in the back.
So if you're a GM owner, hereās what you need to know; if youāre not, hereās what you need to call your congressperson about to.
If you bought the Onstar service, wellā¦they werenāt just there to āhelpā you. They were there to snitches on you to your insurance company.
The state of Texas is suing both GM and Onstar for sending your driver data to LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Verisk Analytics and Wejo. They would give you a driving score and then increase your premiums.
Insurance companies monitoring you using 3rd party apps on your phone is nothing new. But consent is normally involved. There was, however, no consent involved in this case.
So if Texas wins, you may be entitled to some pennies for your privacy violations. Iām so comforted ā¦š

Other stuff
Stackoverflow made a deal with OpenAI to give them your answers. Itās a non-exclusive deal that uses the new Overflow API. Considering AI code tools arenāt speeding up any process adding badly answered solutions to the mix doesnāt seem prudent.
