We seem to be in a never-ending battle over consumer consent. Hopefully, people will gain some ethics before I die.

But here’s what happened…I’ve always thought Onstar was creepy but not everyone did and now they’ve stabbed you in the back.

So if you're a GM owner, here’s what you need to know; if you’re not, here’s what you need to call your congressperson about to.

If you bought the Onstar service, well…they weren’t just there to ‘help’ you. They were there to snitches on you to your insurance company.

The state of Texas is suing both GM and Onstar for sending your driver data to LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Verisk Analytics and Wejo. They would give you a driving score and then increase your premiums.

Insurance companies monitoring you using 3rd party apps on your phone is nothing new. But consent is normally involved. There was, however, no consent involved in this case.

So if Texas wins, you may be entitled to some pennies for your privacy violations. I’m so comforted …😒

Other stuff

• Stackoverflow made a deal with OpenAI to give them your answers. It’s a non-exclusive deal that uses the new Overflow API. Considering AI code tools aren’t speeding up any process adding badly answered solutions to the mix doesn’t seem prudent. And a bonus to my day, users are now sabotaging posts to be less useful to ChatGPT. Read more here.
